Oil, gas cementing alternative to cenospheres: glass bubbles

01/03/2012

3M Glass Bubbles G65 were introduced at the recent SPE Annual Conference for sampling in oil and gas cementing.

Unveiled as lightweight alternatives to cenospheres, the engineered hollow glass microspheres provide a consistent source of supply and reliability in low-density cementing, it’s declared.

Their product consistency will also reduce some of the risk associated with cenospheres with a high strength-to-density ratio. They’re also designed to be lightweight with a high compressive strength. G65 density is 0.65 g/cc (kg/m3) compared to cenospheres which range from 0.65 to 0.9 g/cc depending upon source of supply.
