Submerged arc welding tech’y uses integrated cold electrode

01/25/2012

ICE submerged arc welding technology productivity is enhanced via Integrated Cold Electrode.

The electrode yields higher deposition rates without increasing heat input. Instead of adding more energy, ICE utilizes excess heat already available to melt an additional non-powered welding electrode. This is said to give 50% higher deposition rates and up to 100% more productivity in root welds. ICE works with tandem welding application in root passes for outstanding penetration and high productivity, notes its manufacturer.

Technology and electrode advantages are cited for broad uses including fabrication of onshore and offshore wind towers or other offshore components as well as in pipe welding and general heavy fabrication.
